LEVIN RSA IN THE DOLDRUMS APRIL 2015

BUT LUCKY CAME BACK TO LIFE

The Levin RSA in the Horowhenua has for sometime was going downhill and its not surprising why. With poor management and a lack of decisive actions with the old school mentality has lead to its decline.

There is no reason why any RSA in NZ cannot make ends meet if they use their brains and have committee members who have skills in the hospitality arena and not by popular demand. The problem facing some of the RSA's is management as we see with Palmerston North closing. The Club President needed to come to grip with what happened in the food dept over a few years then wonder why members decided not to go for a meal there which means they tell others who tell even more and the place gets a bad name.

Well this has been the norm for 2015 to 2017 until a new person Wayne Kay took over and remedied the situation. The committee did nothing

Now lets look at what happened:

2 years ago my wife and I went for the first time to have Friday dinner. Having frequented many restaurants and family ones at that we were taken aback by the food. It was a roast and you had the choice of 2 slices of beef or 2 slices of pork. No lamb but no matter.

Veges and a salad bar were normal and one could have as much as they liked of veges but the down side was the white sauce. Having worked in Hotels the sauce was dilated milk and the gravy was just as bad with no flavour at all. The whole affair we thought was not to our liking.

Even the female manager was eating yet we have been told still has her job and still does nothing. Ok she is an ex Bank teller we were told which means she doesn't have to keep an eye on the food or even as those eating their thoughts? It turned out the chef was the dish washer who had upgraded himself to be chef but the food was not what we thought worth the $23 we paid.

Now not wanting to say anything we asked a members whose a qualified chef what we experienced and he totally agreed. But for the next 2 years the same management staff still work there and nothing cvhanged until Xmas time when they didn't have a chef we were told and quite a number got food poison at their end of year function on food they had brought in. But thats all over & Levin RSA is back again under Wayne.

SO WHY DID LEVIN RSA GET SO FAR INTO THE RED

1/. No veting of food, chefs, feedback from members
2/. The Club President not wanting to put his foot down
3/. As more people keep away they tell more? it compounds
4/. Management disregarding the reaction of how bad food by members can bring about a decline in patronage

5/. Not seeing the warning signs earlier

6/. Keeping the same staff yet they are not responsible for what they do or didnt do
7/. No set work roles or asking members their opinions
