NZ DOCTORS ARE LEAVING & wouldn't you

IF THE CONDITIONS & MONEY IS BETTER ELSEWHERE

ARE HEALTH GONE AMUK

WITH MORE AND MORE DOCTORS LEAVING we have to ask why? In plain language the answers are easy to figurte out. The $$$ are far better over in Austyraliam the weather is another factor and the work conditions and pressure is less. In NZ front line Doctors are outnumbered 5 to 1 by Administration and Managers in every sector just like District Councils. Who wants to work long hours, be hounded by Health managers who think they know and then get a salary that doesn't come close to a CEO who does less work & less time

FAt the moment we have places like Levin with inadequate medical care Doctors. The local hospital said in July 2010 they were not taking on any new patients only for emergencies??? then the Tararua Medical Centre also said sorry they are also not taking on any new patients as they opnly have one Doctor? so what does one do. Well lucky there are two Doctors near the Queen St baths that will help but isn't this crazy???

NZ with Private Hospital's springing up one has to have insurance to get the best benefits from any medical facility in NZ. Its disgusting but check out the new Bowan Hospital in Wellington. But on the good side NZ is excellent when it comes to the distribution of medicines and costs. These are now cheaper than many western countries and even cheaper than places like Thailand. A medical appointment with a doctor is around $32 which is OK and the cost for say 3 months prescription of pills can be around $6. Now this is cheaper than even Thailand who will charge 1000 baht [ $NZ50 ] and medication is on what type of pills are required and this is where they make their money. Its expensive by NZ terms. Also the costs to have blood tests for patients are free and in Thailand can be anywhere from $100+ upwards depending on the hospital you go to.

New Zealand First proposes quite marked changes to the current health system structure.

A summary of the structural changes includes:

  • Shake up the Ministry of Health
  • Dismantle the purchaser/provider approach
  • Remove the Regional Health Authorities (RHAs)
  • Develop a contracting/provider model similar to the arrangement the State Services committee has with chief executives of government departments
  • Locally based contracting
  • Ensure clear accountabilities
  • Contract on the basis of results delivered
  • Restore community involvement and democracy through a community based health care system.

The approach used would be to generate Regional Health Boards which replace the current Crown Health Enterprise (CHE) structure. These would serve a given population based on size, probably using territorial local authorities which would cover a larger area than the CHE equivalent.

There would be a move from 23 CHEs down to 14 CHEs, each of which would consult with its community around the exact configuration (eg involvement by Health Waikato, Western Bay, Lakes and Eastern Bay). Hospitals would be stand alone, run as separate entities and not by the Regional Health Boards.

Regional Hospital Boards are seen as a form of ’not-for-profit’ Independent Practitioner Association (IPA). Efficiencies would generate savings which would be reinvested as services. Health analysis would be an important discipline within these organisations. Community members would be elected democratically. Competition would be intense but needs to be in order to ensure skills and quality; an appointing system would operate to bring in the required expertise.

Minister of Health Tony Ryall will not change the salary scale of doctors who basically don't want to stay in NZ. He is out of touch when he said: " the Minister claimed that Australian recruitment campaigns for New Zealand GPs were having very little impact". But he's wrong as more will leave for better shores, money and lifestyle. Foreigners who come to NZ never stay once they get their residency --they head to Australia.

WHY ARE MANUFACTURERS & BUSINESSES LEAVING NZ: [ Read the story ] The issues are economics nothing else and many a time the owner is blamed for moving when in fact he has no say in the matter otherwise he will go bust. However read the reasons why NZ has lost the plot ---[ Compare to Thailand ] & why more factories are heading abroad now. It makes sense.[ Check WHY THAILAND ] is better for Manufacturers & any Kiwi Company. Why NZ is lost [ NZ Deficit increases ] [ China buying us ]
