TRAVEL TICKET TO THAILAND & ONWARD FLIGHT OUT A MUST IT SEEMS

Flying without an ongoing ticket to some countries can be a problem when leaving Auckland or any NZ airport. The rules for Thailand is you need an outward flight from Bangkok yet it is never questioned. The airlines say that they get fined but if someone is actually living in Thailand and they buy returns from Thailand this should not be the case. You live in Thailand yet you are asked to have ongoing ticket out of Thailand--crazy. But if this happens to you what to do? The only ticketing place in Auckland airport is the flight centre but this is not opened on a Sunday hence you will lose your seat on the plane. The Cathay staff were useless and could not make a decision--the head Chinese girl could not even differentiate visa info and the ticket girl was new?? well this figures as we understand staff trunovers are high even in Air NZ due to the crazy hours the staff have to work with bad roster systems. Thats right they will not allow you to travel without a ticket out. One of our members had this happened 2 hours before leaving Auckland Inter airport to Bangkok yet when he arrived in Bkk his long term visa immigration said he didn't need one. This individual owns a Thai Company and has been living there for 17 years.

Here is what you can do: try to book Airasia on the quickest route out which you can change once you get there. This could be to Vientianne in Laos or Penang in Malaysia. The costs are cheaper than if the Flight Centre book you a one way seat from bangkok to another country.

The downside is the bookings are NZ $ and one ways are costly. eg. At the time our member travelled by Cathay via Hkk to Bangkok. He decided a ticket back to Hkk would be Ok--the cost $800NZ. Ok what about KL in Malaysia $400. The silly thing is if you book from KL back to Auckland the fair is around 48000baht???alone but if you book Bkk-Kl to NZ return its only 39000baht at the time 2010.

Now for the worse thing asking for a cancellation. It takes approx 12 weeks maybe miore to get a refund back on your trip. Yes quick to get a ticket but bad news for getting a refund. After 3 emails to the Flight Centre in Auckland we have had no replies? so still waiting.

The minimum air freight service is 45kgs. Under this you pay to the 45kg weight. If over 1m long then its volume x weight which can be expensive. Transport services are expensive in NZ moreso then a return into NZ.
