MERCEDES BENZ 2001-2001 C200 KOMPRESSOR ADJUSTING HEADLIGHTS & CHANGING BULBS

The Mercedes-Benz made a C200 Kompressor coupe in 2001, labelled the C-Class SportCoupé. The C200 is the touring compact car thats not going to kill you on the costs for some parts etc due to ebay as parts can be cheap if you don't mind waiting for 2 weeks. Headlight Halogen bulbs may need to be changed but take care not to touch the bulbs & wear gloves--lates preferred but cloth OK.

The headlight has a covers per below

Unscrew the cover to gain access to the headlight.

Note the 2 tags on the left and right. Make sure the bulb is upright. If you find the socket above will not stay in place once you put the headlight back then you need to splay out the flaps left & right. these seat under the screws on left & right in the headlight. Sometimes when you try to push in then turn it catches on the screws & will bend in hence becomes loose on one side so you need to splay out the tabs so it fits when you turn clockwise to seat it.

Pic above shows the headlight once the front wheel is removed and the protective casing is unscrewed in the wheel well. You can then see the headlight fitting. Check the wires as sometimes they seat on the headlight casing & can fray. You do not need to take off the bumper etc to check the headlights but only when you replace the whole headlight.

How to adjust headlights?

Turn the headlights on. Do not use your high beams or fog lights. Mark the horizontal and vertical center lines of the headlight beams with masking tape to make two T’s on the wall or garage door with car close to wall. The center lines are no higher than 3.5 feet (1.1 m) from the ground.

Back your car exactly 25 feet (7.6 metres ) from the wall or garage door and 4ft or 1.10 metres high. Don't estimate the distance! Use a tape measure to make sure you are the proper distance away from the wall.

Theres one screw at the top of the headlight to adjust vertically and another screw to one side of the headlight to adjust horizontally,but some cars may have adjustment bolts & not screws. Clockwise turns should raise the lights, & counter clockwise turns should lower the lights. Turn the headlights on after adjusting and look at the light pattern on the wall. The top of the most intense part of the beam should be even with, or just below the center of the line of tape you made.

ANOTHER WAY
Drive back 25 feet or 7.6m from a wall, and place a piece of tape horizontally 4 feet [1.10m]  high across the wall in front of your vehicle. Turn on the low beams. Adjust the headlights until they shine on the tape.You do not need to adjust high beam as auto once you do low beam.

CHANGING HEADLIGHT h7 HALOGEN BULBS:

Do not touch the glass. Wear gloves. No Wire dogs to hold connector unlike many car headlights? The connector shown goes into the hole for the headlight, and it turns to the right to clip in or clockwise. It's hard to get it just right, get it lined up,
but with a bit of trial and error you should get it but use a mirror and lamp to see better. Halogen h7 BULBS should have tab on the top. INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT HOLDER ARE 2X SCREWS SO NOT TOUCH THESE AS THE BENT TABS WILL BE HELD BY THESE ONCE YOU TWIST THE BULB HOLDER INTO THE HEADLIGHT RECESS.

Headlamp Bulb - H7 Halogen (12-volt, 55-watt, High Beam and Low Beam, for Halogen Headlamp)

When replacing the bulb make sure the housing is the right way up. If the beam are too high then its upside down so change with tag of the bulb on the bottom.

When cleaning the bulb if dirty do not touch the glass. Use a lint free cloth but you can use 90% iso propyl alcohol & 10% water to clean. NEVER touch the glass.
